What brand of cue stick do you have? Why? Do you think it matters? Standard or low deflection shaft?

McDermott cue with a predator shaft. The cue was a gift. This is low deflection.
Just got a Cuetec with thunderbolt shaft as a gift. This is medium deflection. I've used a predator for so long, it took a while to get used front/back hand english on the Cuetec. Good practice though.

McDermott, gift and I don't know the rest, but I think that it is pretty. I am also not allowed to use red chalk anymore because if I do Jimmy won't clean it, but I am allowed to use tan

Viking with an OB2 low deflection shaft. It took some getting used to the shaft, but I really like how it plays now. I also use a Viking Fat Daddy break cue and just bought a Lucasi Hybrid Air Hog jump cue which I am having fun with.

I use a players sneaky pete for a break cue that Fred Fairchild installed my one piece laminated phenolic ferrule/tip, and Jimmy Sickles is currently installing a jump joint in the butt. I use it because I really like the bar cue look for a break cue, and I feel like the no collar wood to wood joint gives me a nice feel for breaking.

My Mcdermott P710 playing cue has a G-core shaft, that I like quite a lot! The perfectly straight grained shaft is dowelled with a composite pin at the tip witch cuts on deflection and vibration, also some sort of red ring inthe ferrule that gives it a touch of asthetic appeal, and is supposed to do something, but I don't know what. I have noticed since I started playing with this cue I can draw a ton! That may be the Kamui layered tip though...

I play with a predator sport because I really like the wrap and how far back it is. It ces standard with a predator 314 gen2 shaft that I love due to the stiffness of the hit. I also break with a predator bk2 sport wrap.

Assuming we are talking production cues, I would say Schon, Pechauer, then Jacoby. They are all being manufactured in the US and with lower quantity runs, the quality of build is excellent. I play with a Pechauer, each is signed by Jerry or Joe before leaving the door and their lifetime warranty, even on warpage is awesome.

I used to have a Predator Z2 shaft and after testing many other low deflection shafts I've got rid of them all. Sure, they are LD, but the feel is horrific. Maybe the best being the new OB Classic. The shafts of the three I mentioned before should be perfectly fine and they can alter it to the diameter your desire. Their shaft will be old, tight grain wood and feel so much better then a rushed for high production numbers, cheaper wood, LD shaft.

As far as break cues, easily a custom Steve Lomax. A more affordable option would be the new Poison break cues. I've also hit with the Predator and OB break cues and both are solid. Just my .02

Do not get me started on production/custom cues. Most people do not know what tight grain is or will be able to tell the difference between the type of hits. Each ferrule, tip, taper, and type of joint ring material will all change the hit of a cue.

Custom cue builders hate production because it takes away from their pockets. a production quality cue is made every bit as well as a custom built one. it all depends on price, cue, manufacture. They are all built the same with the same process.

As far as warpage warranty, good luck with this with a small custom builder. Usually they will have some excuse why you violated your warranty because they know the difference in climate between Florida, California, Indiana and where the cue was made at.

I shoot with my own self built custom cue, and Predator.

Predator Shaft, Predator cue/butt.... sneaky-pete style. I prefer no "wrap" on my shooting stick(s), and don't need all the fancy inlays either. Old School.

I've shot with many different cue manufacturers through the years, and prefer the control of the Predator.

I use a glorified broomstick. Actually it's a Cuetec with a Thunderbolt shaft. I also use it to break with which is probably not a great idea.

I want to know more about the OB Classic shaft that was mentioned by ZY. I read a little about it in a magazine, but tell me more.

What is the difference between it and the OB1? I know they put a white ferrule on it, but how does it shoot or feel different?
