You guys are right, this is for fun! It's between you and God, whether you tell someone before they screw up... personally, I don't think I would have told you. Not because I am dishonest or love seeing people screw up, but mainly because that's part of the game. If I screw up, I know the consequences. I know that if I get confused because I play three different leagues with three different sets of rules, I need to clarify before I shoot. If I fail to do that, and don't get a ball to the rail, or don't hit my ball in an effort to hook you, my fault, if i hit the wrong number in nine ball, my fault, that is the simplest and most basic rule of the game. Any body here that can't count to nine? I've been known to do screw it up.

I can see your side on the color blind thing. Here's a thought, who ever is keeping score, or not playing on your team, ask them to help watch to make sure you are aiming in the general direction of the correct ball, if not call time out on you, that way, if you are playing a guy like me, your color vision deficiency won't cause you to strike the wrong ball giving me ball in hand.

I don't think that "Winning from the chair" should mean "let's hold each other hands and skip through the wild flowers" I see it more as a "don't make an effort to distract and deceive your opponent" type thing.

I agree with your closing statement to a degree. About 90% of the people we play with are great sports, they generally speak highly of each other and are for the most part, humble about their wins. Where I disagree is with a lot of peoples willingness to ask for, and/or accept the coaching. I know of many players, including myself, that could use better judgement on when, and where to use those allotted time outs! I probably only use one time out in four or five matches, twenty plus games, so maybe 5% of the time... If I were more disciplined in using those opportunities, I think i could raise my success rate by a valuable percentage.

The only reason I realize this, is because there came a situation during the regional tourney this weekend where I really needed a coaching, and it wasn't available to me. Don't know whatcha got till it gone!!

Time outs are there, time outs are allowed, time outs don't hurt you, they can only give you an edge, or at the very least, give you a different perspective. Use 'em up!! If someone gives you some advise that you don't agree with, ask them to grab another player and discuss it so you get two fresh looks, or throw their advise under the table and go with what you are comfortable with!

"I'll take that one", is their comment. "He
has what it takes."

Many players have experienced a similar
fixation for a white 2.25" ball that rolls
on a cloth covered flat surface.

Tom Simpson, master instructor of the National
Billiards academy once put it this way when
asked what the difference between a pro and
beginning player was...

His reply: "About 250,000 shots"

That's a fixation.

Granted shooting 250,000 shots is by
no means a guarantee to an invitation
to The Derby, but I think we would all
agree, that's a true love for the game.

Keeping our priorities in proper order of course
is important, but think how strong our
game would be if we just turned that TV
time into training?

I'm old fashioned when it comes to defining
what it takes to make a good player.
Granted, God given talent plays a part,
but I believe that focused, concentrated
training can go a very long way to quenching
our domination of that illusive sphere.

It is a game that will never be completely
dominated by any professional or money player.

Perfection.
It's a worthy aspiration well outside human
attainment, but it's balanced pursuit is a shining
jewel of the human spirit.

The column of zeros is a reflection of the ineptitude of the US Postal system. I'm assuming those scoresheets are lost somewhere as it as been two weeks and it shouldn't take that long to get them here from lebanon, especially since the mail to and return address listed are both mine. Another reason I strongly encourage and our by-laws state to write checks for team fees.

There are much simpler ways of returning scoresheets if everyone would just take the responsibility of doing it. However, the past two sessions that was clearly lacking as I would continually receive envelopes anywhere from Wed to Monday or sometimes they would be hand delivered to shop on Saturday. When I contact people regarding missing envelopes, I always hear 'I put them in the box on Tuesday.' Then the envelope show up with a Thursday or Friday postmark or even better a money order with a Thursday date, that's impressive. I have talked to a postmaster and he said barring a blizzard there is no way a drop box is not picked up every single day as the mailman has to electronically scan each box which logs day and time, that proves he/she didn't pick it up prior to the time posted on the box. If a box is missed, a report is spit out by 7PM and sh!t hits the fan.

So this session is an experiment on taking the responsibility away from the group and putting it on a single person. Other than the lost mail, it has worked as planned.

The alternative for which I have no problem is to follow the by-laws to the strict letter and have each team mail their own scoresheets. If not postmarked on Tuesday, no bonus point. No questions. I just staple the envelope to the scoresheet and the captain can argue with the postmaster over the date.
