APA likes to cater more to the beginning player. I guess we're all amateurs, but APA develops its rules to encompass all players from SL 1-9, beginners to advanced players...

I think it's funny you should bring this up. Just before City Cup, I asked John what he thought of a new APA rule of having the option of racking your own rack! I think it would like you said... eliminate all the controversy of loose racks. John didn't see any reason to make it a rule. Maybe if enough of us think it's a good idea, maybe he will do something about it.

The Men's and Women's pro tours follow the WPA (World Pool-Billiard Association) the international governing body of pocket billiards... These rules directly correlate to the BCA which have been in the process of adopting the World Standardized Rules (WSR) of the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) since 1993...

From the WPBA website:

TABLES, BALLS, EQUIPMENT
All games described in these rules are designed for tables, balls and equipment meeting the standards prescribed in the BCA Equipment Specifications.

Makes 'em pretty reputable to me if that's what the pros are following...]]>
